I wanted to take this time to share a personal story with you. My husband and I have taken our son off of gluten (wheat) for some behavior issues he had been having. We have found some profound results and wanted to share our story in hopes of helping others who may be going through the same things we did.
My 4 year old son has had behavior issues my husband and I were having problems dealing with. His preschool run by our school district put a full-time aid in his classroom just to focus on him and they were considering removing him from the class. He had daily long violent tantrums where he would hit and kick us repeatedly. He could be set off by the smallest of things. He rarely used the potty anymore. He pooped in his pants 6 times in one day during the worst of times. His mindset was also odd. We could not talk to him. He never remembered anything that happened at school. He rarely initiated a conversation outside of what he was imagining during playtime. He was always in his own world. We decided to remove gluten(wheat) from his diet based off chatter we found on the internet. We were desperate. This was actually the 2nd time we did this as we liked the results after the 1st time but had to put him back on a normal diet after a couple weeks for some blood work he was getting.
This time the results were even more noticeable. Noticeable is an understatement though. The results were incredible. Within a week his potty use was consistent. His tantrums became short and most importantly we finally saw him understanding what he did wrong after we talked with him. His hitting decreased a great deal and when he does, he can show remorse and an understanding of the punishments we give him. Before punishment had zero affect on him, and we tried them all. The part we find the most exciting though is how his mindset has changed. We can talk to him about his school day. He is asking us more thoughtful questions. He’s shown self-awareness. He now will give us a hug and say I love you spontaneously which did not happen before. My husband has a degree in chemistry and physics. He knows the scientific method well. He says this is the most amazing thing he has ever seen. We both have no doubt the gluten-free diet has caused this change. We feel like we have a new son and the parenting we so desperately wanted to give him is now being learned. I can’t wait to see how he progresses.
Please join the conversation on our Facebook Page. We have seen what this has done first hand for our son. He truly is a different child. I hope you too will see the same results with your child.
